Winter/Indoor and Outdoor Training Policy
Attending training
sessions both indoor during winter and outdoor once the season
starts is the single most important thing you can do to allow your
child to develop the skills needed to be successful playing the
beautiful game. Training sessions can be equated to attending
classes and the matches are the exam. If you don’t attend
class to prepare for the test then the likelihood of being
successful are reduced. National US Youth Soccer guidelines
recommend three training sessions for every match. While this
is hard for us to achieve in a Town based program we still aspire to
meet this goal
Indoor Training
Generally from January through March, each age group holds
skill training sessions once a week at the
Miller
Center
on
Gosse Court
adjacent to
Hunt
School
. Some of the stronger more committed teams also train at the
Soccer
Center
on the Fair Grounds in
Essex
. These trainings sessions are wonderful opportunities to get time
with the ball at their feet; get to know the coaches and to begin
the process of building team chemistry while developing essential
skills. All players are strongly encouraged to attend these
sessions.
Outdoor Training
Outdoor training generally starts as soon as the snow
melts and fields are suitable for play. Locations of training
vary depending on the coaches’ availability – but all are within
the City. Training locations include
Calahan
Park
,
Leddy
Park
,
Rock
Point
School
and Starr Farm Fields. Teams will train at a minimum of once a week,
but many of the teams and coaches recognize in order to be
competitive and develop they will train twice a week for a majority
of the season. All outdoor training sessions are mandatory.
Coaches and team managers need to be contacted if a player will miss
a session.
Match Policy
Matches are
an important part of the player’s development, but match performance is not a measure
of success
For the U8 and U10 programs we encourage "equal-playing-time".
For U12 and up coaches have discretion over substitutions and
playing policies based upon a variety of factors including ability,
attitude, commitment, training attendance,
expectations listed above and game situations
Uniform Policy
Players
keep their uniforms at the end of the season.
New uniforms will be ordered for all players each season
Team Managers
While Coaches typically do a great job of communicating
with the families, their time is best spent planning and executing
training sessions. The club strongly encourages every team to have a
manager that can facilitate communication, help arrange rides and
keep the coach informed about school events and conflicts.
About
Vermont
Soccer League
The
VSL
includes 3 Divisions. Division 1 includes premier or select clubs.
Divisions 2 and 3 are made up of town based clubs. Each division
provides an opportunity for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and
18 to compete on a team against other teams of equal ability. The
goal of the League is to provide opportunities to play soccer in a
positive environment that promotes skill development, fair play, and
good sportsmanship. In the Spring of
2010 Catamount Soccer
Club will field teams that play at
all three division levels.
The season runs from April through June
Games
have historically been a combination of Fridays and/or Sundays.
In a typical season, half the games require travel; some outside
Chittenden
County
(Examples: Middlebury, Stowe,
Jericho
)
U14
Games are 11vs.11
U12 Games are 8 vs. 8
U10 Games are a 7 vs. 7
U 8 Games are a 5 vs.5 format w/o goalies.
